About our speaker:
Jaime Laughter is the current Transylvania County Manager, having served in that role since September 2014. Prior to her service with Transylvania County, Jaime served 8 years as the Town Manager for the Town of Mills River and prior to that 4 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a Community Planner and Transportation Engineer. She earned her Master of Public Administration from the North Carolina State University in 2004, building on a Baccalaureate Degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University. She also holds a certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a Certified Manager under the International City County Manager Association (ICMA). She lives in Pisgah Forest with her husband and their three children.
About The Haven of Transylvania County:
The Haven offers respite for individuals who have suddenly or unexpectedly fallen into homelessness, as well as those who may be chronically homeless. It serves as a safe and secure space where individuals can receive assistance in getting back on their feet.
The organization provides a comprehensive program, which includes access to mental health counseling, case management, showers, kitchens, internet access, mail service, and telephone messaging. Guests undergo screening in advance and are expected to work towards specific goals aimed at transitioning to permanent housing.
The Haven is dedicated to assisting families and individuals in crisis in Transylvania County by providing safe temporary refuge in a clean and comfortable shelter.
